One of the oldest cruise lines, Holland America has always been known for its extensive
Alaskan cruise and cruise tour offerings. Their ships have long been characterized by attentive dining room service and understated elegance. Generally the passenger mix sailing with Holland America is concentrated among couples ranging from 35 to 55, and
55 and over group cruise passengers.
You'll see a small number of single people onboard, as well as fewer families than other lines carry. With the introduction of the Statendam in 1993, Holland America began to enhance its style of ships; there are currently
3 in this series
- the Maasdam, the Veedam, and the Ryndam, which feature - deck lobbies, and art collections estimated at $2 million. The ms Volendam and the ms Zaandam, which entered service in 1999 and 2000 respectively, are slightly larger. Then Holland
America developed its "Vista" class ships.
Currently the Holland America fleet includes 12 ships. In addition, they have launched an exclusive
"Signature of Excellence" initiative which includes even more enhancements from accommodation features like the Mariner Dream Bed and flat-screened TVs, to dining enhancements like the Pinnacle Grill; Activity Enhancements include the Exploration
Café and their groundbreaking Culinary Arts Center.
Service features are also part of the initiative and include the exclusive "Greenhouse Spa & Salon" onboard, a popular extension of the Landside Spa brand. More details are highlighted on their website.
